About Marine Studios

We stage our own events and work with creatives to take ideas to communities.

Marine Studios is a community-interest company. That means we focus on projects that benefit the community rather than make profits for shareholders.

We stage events that range from First Friday talks, to GEEK2013
(a festival of video games of the past, present and future),
and Adventures in Comics (a 2 page comic challenge).
We put up the money for our ideas and sometimes (as with GEEK) we find funding from other organisations so that we can take our events to larger audiences.

We’re a seaside sandbox for ideas that get communities talking.

We work with artists and creative of all stripes. We work with them to create ideas and take them to different communities. We love ideas that get people and communities talking to each other.

Our coworking space is another way to work with – and build –
a community.

In our parallel corporate life we’re HKD, award-winning designers of museums and exhibitions.

HKD creates spaces which extend cultural access and social interaction, which allow museums to have an ongoing communication with their audiences.

Do you want to stage a First Friday or GEEK2013 fringe event?

We’d like to hear from you if you want to use our platforms to:

• Give a talk (or stage a happening) on a subject you’re passionate about. It’s what our First Fridays are for.

• Run an event that’d be part of the GEEK2013 fringe. Last year we had game-themed poetry, chiptune DJs, and gaming-inspired theatre.

If you’ve got event ideas along these lines please get in touch.
